Become a CHET Friend

At Crosby Hall Educational Trust, every day brings a new opportunity for growth and exploration.

What’s in it for me?

Once a year you will receive a copy of the CHET Friend Newsletter. You will also receive details of our fundraising events including our Sunday Concert Series, Outdoor play, the Annual Art and Craft Fair, Garden Open Day and our Christmas events. Most years we hold a CHET Friend evening when we invite you to an event where you can hear more about what goes on at CHET, progress over the previous year and forthcoming projects. Most importantly you will be making a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children.

Do I have to do anything?

No! We do have a fundraising body called The Peacock Committee who help at our events though, if you would like a more active role please ask CHET staff for details.

Some information about CHET

Crosby Hall Educational Trust (CHET) is a small independent centre situated in a beautiful rural setting on a 120 acre country estate about 8 miles north of Liverpool. It was created out of the 17th century stables and farm buildings at Crosby Hall which has been the home of the Blundell family for many centuries. The Blundell family founded CHET and remain fully involved. We are a small independent centre where our guests enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, enhanced by sole occupancy of the centre. We find that a visit to CHET can enable a school group to relate to itself and its teachers in a new way.

CHET is a registered charity established in 1991 to offer children from all backgrounds a taste of country life away from the routine of normal life. Here they can enjoy a range of outdoor (and indoor) activities that are not available in a classroom setting. We are constantly improving the range and quality of these activities and are committed to providing our visitors with a fun, exciting, stimulating, but safe experience.

We can accommodate up to 60 children comfortably in bunk bedded rooms for four or six. We also have excellent kitchen staff who provide a delicious home cooked nutritious menu that can cater for all dietary needs.

At CHET we have an outstanding, committed staff team who work tirelessly to ensure that every child enjoys their short time with us and that they will remember their experiences for many years to come. We offer a wide variety of instructor-led activities and collaborate with each school so that we provide a program that is tailored towards their needs and objectives. Our activities include rafting, orienteering, shelter building, bush craft, archery and adventure course to name just a few. Some activities set us apart from other residential centres and help to ensure that not only is a child’s visit to CHET a memorable one, it is also unique.

What is a CHET Friend?

We have just over 100 CHET Friends at the moment. They each subscribe a sum of money to our Bursary Fund which is used to offer financial assistance to those children who would not be able to afford to come to CHET without help. These children are given a reduction in the cost of a visit through the Bursary Fund.

No teacher wants to leave some members of his or her class behind and no child wants to be left behind either. The aim of our bursary fund is that when a school or other group books a class visit to CHET every child will be able to come and enjoy our activities regardless of financial circumstances. This would not be possible without the generous help of the CHET Friends. The number of CHET Friends has declined over recent years but the demand for help from our bursary fund is higher than ever.

How do I join?

It’s very simple, just fill in the covenant form and return it to us. We will do the rest!

How much should I give?

About £120 per year is the standard amount but you can of course give more or less if you wish. This is normally taken by a monthly or annual standing order from your bank. Some of our CHET Friends send an annual cheque instead. Covenants run indefinitely but they may be cancelled at any time, should you wish to do so. A letter to your bank is all that’s required.
